It compares the device reported fan states with a fan state identifier list defined for each WARNING and CRITICAL threshold. If any device fan state is found on a list, plugin returns the related state and a list with the fans involved or OK if not. By using it without arguments, you can use this plugin to test if SNMP access is enabled to your device and if it supports CISCO-ENTITY-FRU-CONTROL-MIB. Fan identifiers and their related description are defined in a README file included in the package. Also, an usage help and examples are included. Plugin is fully Nagios 3.x (ePN) compatible. The check works as intended, however it does not support SNMPv3 which is becoming needed in today's security age.

check all option

There isn't an option to check "all" Fan and I can achieve this by checking single device with correct Fan IDs. This means I need to setup a Fan service check for EVERY DEVICE... speaking of bad design of addons.......

Hi casruizhang: It's true that the current version of the plugin doesn't support implicitly checking ALL fans but a list of them, we'll consider your idea in future plugin versions.

However as help output states (something that seems you've not carefully read) you can run the plugin in test mode in order to get a list of present fans with their ids and you can run the plugin in check mode stating a LIST (not just an item) with ids of the fans to check.

That means that in practice the own plugins is able to tell you all the fan ids present in your device and is able to check part or all of them stating the right value in the -e option.

what is very nice about this plugin is that people behind it, works with you right away in the solution of any problem that eventually appears with one or another cisco type, or os. thanks!
