Check for available package upgrades with slackpkg - the minimal Slackware package manager. Includes tools for doing this with an unprivileged user (so it can be used with check_by_ssh). This is not 100% secure yet, so beware. I only tested with Nagios 4.x, but I see no reason why it should not work with other nagios versions.
