box293_check_mbox.pl is used to keep an eye on a local mbox account. Without manually checking the mbox reguarly, important system messages can go undetected. “You have new mail in /var/spool/mail/root” = this is an mbox OPTIONS –help Display the help message. –mbox_user The username on the system whose mbox you want to check. By default the plugin will check the mbox of the user running the plugin (normally this is the ‘nagios’ user, because this is the user account that executes plugins). Because system messages are more commonly logged to the root user’s mbox, it is this mbox you will want to monitor. To monitor an mbox for another user, you will need to grant permission.
