Quick and dirty hack of the perfectly nifty check_mailq (Subhendu Ghosh/Carlos Canau/Benjamin Schmid) that just checks the number of "*-H" files in the exim input directory. It's much less resource intensive than running a mailq or similar command for busy mail/list servers. When I say quick and dirty, I mean it. You may need to change some variables such as PATH_TO_FIND and FIND_ARGS to suit your system. I originally hacked this up for a couple of busy Debian/Exim inbound MailScanner gateways that handle 60-100GB of mail per day each. It may however help if you've got a very busy box and using the mailq command times out or puts too much load on the box.
